Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. In the effort to help people save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices they create a series of standards to which companies can strive to reach.
One example of Soleus Air powered by Gree exceeding Energy Star standards can be found in a new line of portable air conditioners utilizing R-410A refrigerant.
R-410A is a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly refrigerant that provides increased product performance and reliability without negatively affecting the Earth’s ozone layer. Traditionally, air conditioners and other refrigeration products use R-22 refrigerant which contains chlorine and depletes the ozone layer when it breaks down. By 2010, the United States government will require all air conditioning products use the more environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant according to the Clean Air Act.
